“I sit pondering the art of the process as I listen to Unsung’s new release “Young Man”. Its honestly mind boggling and I am a little speechless; the way this guy seamlessly transitions from topic to topic, sunken into a mound of realism and hard truths. What is the process? How is it that his honesty spills over into fictional ideas, mixed with memories of love and friendships? His choice of samples perfectly frames his lyrical assault that is as fierce as it is smooth. This combination, coupled with the overall experimental nature of his sonic aesthetic creates a sound that is accessible and fearful. Once again, though, what is the process? Surely his lyrical content comes effortlessly; and if it doesn’t, he does a great job of making it sound like it does. “Young Man” will conjure up thoughts of early 90’s hip hop, but there is such a “picked out of the garden” fresh level to his style that’ll leave listeners wanting more and more.”
