“‘Saturday morning no wave.’ These are the emboldened words that display on Video Daughters Bandcamp page within the ‘About’ section. Admittedly, this is a great description for how Video Daughters has been portraying their music throughout their years as a group.
‘Whiteness Where the Water Was’ is not their first release on Already Dead Tapes and Records, but rather a continuation of our relationship with the Brooklyn group. Their latest release serves as another opportunity to hear the growth for where the band has been in regards to musical releases. ‘Whiteness Where the Water Was’ is a slightly darker album than the previous Video Daughters’ releases and has more polished transitions from one part of the song to the next, (as well as a brief sampling from the classic New York sound of The Velvet Underground.) They still maintain a rock music vibe mixed into experimental, psychedelic pop jams, but have also manifested into a stronger form of expression with the songs being played in minor keys which seems to give more vibrancy to the dark tones and mysterious sounds.”
